"Only those who are in top condition can say that the Ronde is not hard.
For everyone else, it's the Way of the Cross."
~Andrea Tafi
Distance: ~ 47 miles
The European Classic: The Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) is considered by most riders and racing aficionados to be the most prestigious and difficult of the single day classics. The Ronde is ~270 km long, and contains 12-15 short, but very steep, hills (bergs) in the last half of the race. Most of these are cobbled. Usually won by a big strong rider who can power over the climbs and take the pounding of the cobbles and positioning needed to stay near the front.
GTC Classic Course Description: Like it’s Belgian counterpart, on the same weekend, the second half of this ~75 km ride contains a series of short hills and a few short sections of rough road over traffic-free back roads in Gwinnett, Barrow and Walton counties (many options as short as 40 km are available).
